Submit an abstract to apply to attend the Environmental Health Retreat!

Pre- and post-doctoral trainees and clinical fellows are invited to submit a 300-word abstract of in-progress research to attend the 3 day retreat. This retreat gives trainees an opportunity to present research in progress in an informal setting with faculty input on their project and presentation. Many past attendees have gone on to successful research careers. Full information about the retreat and how to apply. Deadline to apply is September 6.

APA Strategic Plan: 2017-2022

In November 2016, APA's Board of Directors, local Region and SIG chairs, discussed the strategic direction of the association and developed the 2017-2022 strategic plan. The 2017-2022 strategic plan identifies 4 substantive goals for ensuring APA's future. The goals are not listed in any order or priority; all are equally important and interrelated.

Strategies indicate how APA will organize, focus and expand its resources to maximize its effectiveness and efficiency in achieving these goals. The goals and strategies will be reviewed annually in order to ensure progress and success.

In order to achieve these goals, APA needs your help and your commitment. APA would love to hear your ideas about tactics that can help us achieve one of our goals. Please submit your ideas here.

The Academic Pediatric Association (APA) awarded a $5000 grant to the Continuity Special Interest Group (SIG) to find ways to increase HPV vaccination rates in the United States. The Continuity SIG chose to sponsor a resident HPV video contest, with the aim that residents would create a public service announcement video encouraging resident colleagues to provide a strong recommendation for HPV vaccination. Twelve program expressed interest in participating and nine videos were submitted. The Continuity SIG Steering Committee met and identified the top three videos. The first place winner was Maimonides Medical Center Department of Pediatrics, Brooklyn, NY, and leader, Jonathan Strysko. The second place winner was UCSF Fresno Pediatrics, Fresno, California, and leader, Clarisse Casilang, and the third place winner was University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD, and leaders Natalie Torres and Puja Sood.
