Search for the Chair, Department of Pediatrics

The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine

Clinical Service Chief of Pediatrics

OU Health

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and OU Health seek a dynamic and innovative builder to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and its Clinical Service Chief. The Chair will have the opportunity to grow the department to meet its mission of delivering care to children across the state and advancing the academic missions of education and research. The Chair will grow the department, recruiting and mentoring faculty and consolidating subspecialty pediatric care into Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. The Chair will also support the department’s continued growth in research and education, building upon existing strengths and developing additional infrastructure.

The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUCOM) is the largest component of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and is the academic arm of OU Health, the state’s largest and flagship comprehensive academic health system. The health system and clinical group practice work in concert with the College of Medicine’s educational and research missions. OUCOM, as part of the Health Sciences Center, is on a growth trajectory with an ambitious strategic plan aimed in part at leveraging its strengths to become a top-tier academic health center, enhancing national recognition, bolstering Oklahoma’s healthcare and public health workforce, improving health outcomes and quality of life for many Oklahomans, and reducing health disparities across the state. The state of Oklahoma consistently ranks among the lowest in population health in the United States, and OUCOM and OU Health’s success will directly impact the lives of Oklahomans. The Chair will be an impactful contributor and partner in advancing these critical goals.

The Department of Pediatrics is the largest in the College of Medicine, with over 200 faculty providing care through Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state. The Chair will lead the expansion of clinical programs, support the growth of pediatric providers through the only MD pediatric residency and fellowships in the state, drive the growth of impactful research, and build collaborations across the COM, OU Health, and the state to ensure that all children in the state are able to receive comprehensive, academically-infused care. The Chair will be an active recruiter and mentor, fostering excellence across the tripartite mission and working with faculty, staff, and learners to advance their careers as clinicians, educators, and researchers.

Applicants for this position should be board-certified physicians in Pediatrics, be eligible for appointment within the Department, and have a substantial record of leadership and achievement in clinical, research, and education oversight.
