June 2013 Newsletter Article

This year in Washington, DC we had another exciting SIG meeting. Our focus was on food policy and safety. We started off with a talk on food and additive policy by Tom Neltner, the Director of the Food Additives Campaign from the Pew Health Group. The next speaker was Dr. Joel Forman, one of the lead authors of the AAP Clinical Report on Organic Food, who provided information on organic food. The last speaker was Dr. Clara Filice, Pediatric Environmental Health and Food Policy Fellow from the AAP. Dr. Filice spoke about food safety and foodborne illness.

After these stimulating sessions and discussion, we elected a new SIG co-chair. We also discussed ideas for next year's SIG and collaborative topics for PAS sessions. We are grateful for the participation of our members. We would like to welcome our new SIG co-chair Mateusz (Matt) Karwowski and offer a heartfelt thank you to our outgoing co-chair Sheela Sathyanarayana!
