SIG Description
Academic Fellows SIG was formed with the intent of creating a community of physicians who plan to remain in academics-both general pediatrics and all specialties. Having a forum of fellows with similar career goals will enable focus to be placed on areas of interest that are applicable to a career in academics. Young faculty less than 3 years out of fellowship would be encouraged to participate in an advisory capacity.
SIG Mission/Goals:
The goals of the Academic Fellows SIG will include fostering networking opportunities, research collaboration, mentorship ability, skills to function as independent researchers, advocacy and leadership training, career development and camaraderie among academically oriented fellows in pediatrics. These goals will be attained through Academic Fellows SIG meetings at PAS and potentially Regional meetings along with the development of an online community. Through this online community, resources common to the needs of all academic fellows can be compiled with the potential for webinars and additional learning activities. As core to the mission of the APA, the SIG would strive to encourage leadership in education, research, patient care and advocacy as fellows develop into young faculty and beyond.
