Research in Academic Pediatrics Initiative on Diversity (RAPID)

Fall Mentoring and Career Development Conference

Academic Pediatric Association Research in Academic Pediatrics Initiative on Diversity (RAPID) Supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)

The APA RAPID Program accepts nominations (including self nominations) of young investigators to attend the conference (all expenses paid), which is held in early December, in Grapevine, Texas. A call for nominations will be distributed and posted to the APA website in late summer/early fall for the exciting conference. Eligible attendees include junior faculty, fellows, and residents who are members of an underrepresented minority group (URM), disabled, or from a socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged background, and who are committed to a career in academic general pediatrics. Up to five individuals will be selected to attend. Highlights of the conference include:

  • A panel discussion on keys to success for young investigators; the panel will consist of the RAPID National Advisory Committee (NAC), Director, and Co-Director, who are leading senior researchers and mentors in general pediatrics
  • A speed mentoring session in which participants get one-on-one mentoring from all members of the RAPID National Advisory Committee (NAC), Director, and Co-Director
  • Networking opportunities with leaders in the fields of health disparities, health services research, obesity, nutrition, sickle cell disease, and immigrant health
  • Developing a career development plan for academic success

The RAPID program held its inaugural Fall Mentoring and Career Development Conference in 2014 and it was a success! Don't miss out on this great opportunity; we look forward to hearing from you.
